Volume I: by Rafed El-Sayed, The Changing Cultic Topography of the Akhmîm District in Late Antiquity
This in-depth study investigates the changing cultic landscape around the metropolis of Akhmîm-Panopolis in northern Upper Egypt during Late Antiquity (AD 250-800). The area known as the ancient ninth nome of Upper Egypt or Nomos Panopolites was simultaneously a centre of early Egyptian christianity and a ‘stronghold’ of pagan cults and hellenic culture. Other than most hitherto existing works on Akhmîm relying on literary sources mainly, the author bases his study on the archaeological evidence from the area.
